How to Protect Nails & Cuticles in Winter
How to Protect Nails & Cuticles in Winter
By Suzanne Roberta-Meyer, MBA
It's that time of year again when our nails and cuticles are repeatedly exposed to cold outdoor temperatures and dry indoor heat that just wreaks havoc on them.
To avoid damage to nails and cuticles and to keep them protected and looking gorgeous, here are my top tips to follow:
- Keep your hands and nails moisturized by using a nourishing hand cream and our go-to favorite Sweet Almond Cuticle Oil regularly. This will help prevent your nails and cuticles from becoming dry and brittle, which can lead to cracking and splitting.
- Avoid using nail polish remover too frequently, as it can be drying for your nails. If you do need to use nail polish remover, choose a non-acetone formula, which is less harsh on your nails.
- Avoid exposing your nails to water for long periods of time, as this can cause them to become weak and brittle. If you need to wash dishes or do other tasks that involve getting your hands wet, consider wearing gloves to protect your nails.
- If your nails do become weak and brittle, or you start noticing cracking along the sides, try applying Nail Defense Serum to clean bare nails to seal and protect them.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals on your nails, such as nail hardeners or strong detergents. These can be damaging to your nails and cuticles and can make them more prone to breaking and splitting.
- When polishing your nails, avoid polish that includes harsh chemicals and instead opt for Adesse's 12 Free formulas. They are free from the 12 most harmful and toxic ingredients.
- Be gentle when you are caring for your nails and cuticles. Avoid cutting or tearing your cuticles, as this can cause them to become infected. Instead, push your cuticles back gently using a cuticle pusher or an orange stick.
- To soften cuticles before using a cuticle pusher, gently massage them with Strengthening Bamboo Cream.
- Keep nails shaped and buffed with our Nail File Duo Set made of tempered glass that delivers a flawless, shaped finish to the nail tips and a high gloss shine to the nail surface.
By following these tips, you can help keep your nails and cuticles healthy and protected during the winter months.
It's also important to eat a well-balanced diet that includes plenty of vitamins and minerals, as this can help keep your nails strong and healthy.
